What Is 4G Wireless?

The technology boom started with the advent of the internet and the now extremely primitive dial-up connection. However, with web pages containing more and more complex javascript and high-tech graphics, a need for faster web surfing became needed. Enter the cable modem. Cable modems and DSL connections brought high speed broadband internet to consumer's homes at roughly the same price as cable or satellite TV. This allowed consumers to download at high speeds or visit their favorite java filled websites without the wait. However, as soon as laptops became more and more prevalent in our society and in our offices, the need for high speed mobile internet became necessary. The wireless router helped alleviate part of the problem; however, wireless routers have a reach of roughly 300 to 400 feet. Therefore, if you are stuck in a taxi in traffic and you need to send your proposal to your colleagues, you're out of luck, until now.

 

Wireless broadband internet allows us to have high speed broadband internet no matter where we are. Whether we are on the go, at home, at school or stuck in traffic, we can surf the web at incredible speeds with no problem. Some of you may be wondering: How exactly does wireless broadband internet work? It may sound complex, but mobile internet technology is actually quite simple and easy to explain. A mobile internet network is similar to the network you have set up on your wireless router. A router receives a signal from your cable modem or DSL connection. It then takes the signal and disseminates it through the airways where it is picked up by the wireless modem installed on your laptop or desktop. A mobile internet network is basically a cross between a cell phone and a router. The signal is originated and sent out through a mobile tower, similar to a cell phone tower. However, unlike a router's signal, a mobile internet signal is extremely powerful and can travel long distances without losing its strength. If you have a mobile internet card installed on your phone or laptop, you can receive this signal and use it to surf the internet. Your card sends signals back to the tower through the air as well. If you do not have a mobile internet card pre-installed on your laptop or phone, you can purchase one and simply plug it into your USB port. Therefore, you only have to buy one and you can use it for your phone and then pop it out and use it for your laptop.

 

You may have heard of the new 4G mobile internet networks. These are the fastest networks available right now. 3G networks are also available as a cheaper alternative and produces speeds that most people can live with. In addition, since it is older and more established, the 3G network is much more widely available and therefore you will not go out of range as often as you will with the newer 4G network. However, this is due to change within months.
