GPRS Networks $140 GPRS is a packet based wireless communication service that offers data rates from 9.05 up to 171.2 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. Efficient Routing of Snow Removal Vehicles $96.59 The routing of vehicles is an important area in the field of transportation and logistics. Efficient routing of vehicles can save the transportation industry millions of dollars every year. This book addresses the problem of finding a minimum cost set of routes for vehicles in a road network subject to some constraints. Variations of this problem exist in many practical applications such as snow removal, refuse collection, mail delivery, etc. An algorithm was developed based on the GRASP heuristic to develop good quality solutions and a simulated annealing heuristic was developed to improve the solutions obtained from the construction heuristic. Synchronization in Complex Computing Networks $117.9 In this book we study synchronization phenomena in natural and artificial coupled multicomponent systems, applicable to the scalability of parallel discreteevent simulation for systems with asynchronous dynamics. We also study the role of various complex communication topologies as synchronization networks. We analyze the properties of the virtual time horizon or synchronization landscape (corresponding to the progress of the processing elements) of these networks by using the framework of non equilibrium surface growth. When the communication topology mimics that of the shortrange interacting underlying system, the virtual time horizon exhibits KardarParisiZhang kinetic roughening. Although the virtual times, on average, progress at a nonzero rate, their statistical spread diverges with the number of processing elements, hindering efficient data collection. We show that when the synchronization topology is extended to include quenched random communication links between the processing elements, as in smallworld and scalefree networks, they make a scalable and closetouniform progress with a nonzero rate, without global synchronization.
