Overview

The Brother MFC-8660DN is an all-in-one monochrome printer that also works as a copier, color flatbed scanner, and high-speed fax machine. This machine has a built-in Ethernet network interface that allows for multiple users to take advantage of the MFC-8660DN's multiple features. This makes it a realistic choice for small to medium sized businesses where entire groups need to have access to a company printer/copier/scanner/fax. For individual users, however, there are both parallel and USB ports.

Features and Functionality

When in use in by multiple employees in your small- to medium- sized business, printing and copying speed is extremely important. That's why the Brother MFC-8660DN printer puts out 30 pages per minute of high-quality documents. Resolution reaches as high as 1200 x 1200 dpi for documents up to legal size.

While the flatbed can be used to copy or scan documents, there is also a 50-page auto document feeder that allows for a multipage document to be loaded and left for copying, faxing, etc. There is also a 250-sheet paper tray for letter and legal sized sheets, a 50-page multi-purpose tray that allows you to print to other media (envelopes, etc.), and an optional second 250-sheet paper tray.

Color scanning can be done via the brother MFC-8660DN's flatbed, and scans go directly to email or PDF, depending on your needs. Interpolated resolution for scans is up to 19200 x 19200 dpi. It comes with 32MB standard memory that can store information in the event of a paper shortage or other unforeseen obstacle.

Replacement Brother MFC-8660DN toner cartridges can be purchased that seriously improve on the lifespan of the originals. Regular cartridges yield approximately 3,500 pages (TN550 toner cartridge). The high-yield toner cartridges (TN580 toner cartridge) can provide as many as 7,500 monochrome prints or copies, lowering the cost-per-document price.

The fax modem speed of the Brother MFC-8660DN is 33.6K bps with the ability to scan as fast as 2 seconds per page. It has storage for 340 auto dial numbers and stores up to 600 pages in the memory. Fax forwarding is also featured, and caller ID and distinctive ring recognition can be enabled, as well.
