Controller Cards

A controller card can be described as a card used in computer hardware as an addition or chip that interfaces between a motherboard and other parts of a computer. A controller card can also be used as an adapter, which links two separate parts of a computer together. Several devices such as: mice, printers, hard drives, keyboards, and many more need controllers to operate.

There are also different types of controller cards such as: memory controllers, which monitor the memory of a computer. These controller cards are usually installed in one of the computer's PCI slots. A few controller cards are categorized as "low-profile" cards, simply because they are smaller or shorter than the average cards and will fit in a lower computer box.

One of the “low profile” cards is called “PCI” cards. Input/Output Cards are utilized just for external connectivity. A controller card was first used in a microcomputer back in 1974, when used in an Altair 8800. After the initial use, companies such as Macintosh began to use the controller card in their models. Gradually as the years passed, many different companies took on the likes of controller cards.

Regardless of the various types of controller cards, their primary purpose is to provide additional features to the motherboard. A typical controller card can offer many functions and ports to a computer. This is the underlying reason why controller cards are currently being used by many customers.
